FOR GIRLS FROM 6 UP TO 106

Update January 2022 – A new chapter

It’s been 7 years now since we started the Women and Girls weekends at Purecamping. We started with Uma on the May Bank Holiday weekend of 2015 and we’ve been gathering since then each year in more recent times with the Nourish Retreat in September.

What gorgeous groups we had over the years, as Uma put it a “gathering of goddesses”, “beauteous daughters of Danu”.

I feel privileged to have shared our space with you all. My own daughter of Danu is 15 now and I’m so grateful to have her as my girl, my sister, my friend, Aisling.

I’ve learned so much from you all.

Uma, a bundle of energy, a visionary delving into the power of the feminine, the Goddesses, the Devis in us all. Uma campaigns indefatigably for openness, equanimity and fairness in the Yoga world. Her teachings for women in pregnancy, post-natal and menopause were life changing for me and to many others women.

Colette, strength, and gentleness combined beautifully in her shared wisdom

Susi, the wise woman of craft and ritual.

The Santosa Yoga camp ran from 2011 to 2017, 7 years. It ran its course and ended in its height, which is the way it should be.

Last year’s (2021) Women and Girls Nourish was one of the most beautiful ones, with swims and songs by the camp fire. I’ve got to know you women and your girls well now and I would like to keep going indefinitely, but 7 years seems to me something in the ether for me and this is where I will let this go and leave it perhaps to another young Yoga teacher and her girl to take into the next 7 years somewhere.

I know some of you were just getting started with all this and might be disappointed, but we are still here, you are still there, feel free to book on those same weekends (May Bank Holiday or 1st weekend in September) with another women and girl. I’ll be running yoga classes, the sauna is there, the campfire is there, pizza oven is there and of course, any amount of beaches and sea to launch yourself in to. Purecamping is a retreat space, so make it your retreat. Once you have you and your girl(s) and some space, you have created that women’s wisdom circle

We are still running retreats and they are all listed here: https://purecamping.ie/events/ which are mostly adult focused, but remember at Purecamping all the summer drop in classes are open to families, young and old.

History of Women and Girls Retreats at Purecamping

It was Yoga for girls and women, mothers and daughters, aunties and nieces, grandmothers and granddaughters, godmothers and goddaughters, or just the women and girls of your friends and community.
Yoga, Yoga Nidra and Relaxation, Crafting, Dance, Cartwheels, Handstands, Conversation and Play. Suitable for girls from 6 up to 106.

It was where we took time out to explore our true natures as women and girls without the layers that society applies to us from birth. We reflected on our relationships with the women in our lives. We are daughters, sometimes sisters, sometimes mothers.

May

Our May ‘Bealtaine’ weekend was hosted by the gifted and inspiring teacher, author and mother, Uma Dinsmore-Tuli. Uma has authored many books on Pregnancy and Women’s Yoga including ‘Mother’s Breath’, and ‘Yoni Shakti’ See Uma’s Womb Yoga for more information.

This weekend was packed full with Women and Girl’s Yoga, Yoga Nidra and lots of outdoor fun (dress to match the weather that we are offered). An optional Dawn walk with Trea took us out onto the magical Kilkee cliffs with a visit to the Holy Well of Tobar Kee. There was plenty of time for sharing stories and experiences and plenty of laughter too!

Food was prepared by Fiona at first and then Siobhan, the Naked Forager who managed to create the most beautiful and satisfying vegetarian fare to please all palates, young and old.

September

Our August ‘Nourish’ women and girl’s weekend was hosted by Trea and Susi. Trea is a Satyananda Yoga teacher of 15 years now with many years experience teaching Yoga at all levels to varied groups of women, men, children and families together. Trea teaches Yoga and Meditation at Purecamping throughout the year. Susi Matika, is an experienced belly dance teacher and a gifted crafter. Between the two of these women, you were  guided through this weekend of Yoga, Relaxation, Dance, and shared the wisdom of Women in this intimate surrounding.  Siobhán, prepared our evening meal and shared her culinary wisdom with us. And of course you stayed in our cosy bell tents or cabins, sharing with friends or had time-out with your girl in your own tent.

Many will have heard of the large number of breaching basking sharks off Loop Head, Co Clare. We have recorded 48 breaches in 2 hours on Thursday evening and 85 in three hours today (Friday). If out on a boat we advise you to be very cautious, the risk of a basking shark landing on your boat is moderate. We have no evidence that sharks are aware of boats on the surface prior to breaching so boat users - beware. Breaching at this time of year is associated with courting, and we have filmed torus activity around these breaches. Again boat users need to be aware that there are possibly hundreds of sharks just below the surface which you cannot see so please motor slowly and if there are fins on the surface give them space.Image courtesy of John Glynn ...
